Ep. 4.1: "The Sex Lives of College Girls" Season 3

Emily is joined by Kennedi Landry and Ella Brockway to talk about the latest season of HBO Max's "The Sex Lives of College Girls."

Hey everyone! “You Leik That?” is back, both in podcast form (after a long hiatus) and written form (also after a long hiatus, though a shorter one than the podcast took).

Episode 4.1 of the podcast is live now here on Substack, and should be wherever you find your (for now, audio-only) podcasts, too. I chatted with my good friends Kennedi Landry and Ella Brockway about season three of HBO Max’s “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”

It was a TV-heavy month for me, so there’s also a newsletter on Apple TV+’s comedy offerings that will hit your inboxes this weekend.

With this ~relaunch~ of sorts, I’ve realized a few things I really want to accomplish with “You Leik That?” both in written and podcast form this year.

The first is to provide more consistent, quality content that does not drop off just because my 9 to 5 is demanding a lot. So I’m starting small: One podcast and one newsletter per month, but I promise they’ll routinely hit your inbox and be worth your time.

And I’m not ruling out that some months may bring additional content, either.

The second is that I want “You Leik That?” to be a place for both myself and you all to find new movies, TV shows, music and more. I want it to act, at least in part, as a recommendation service.

This is inspired in part by a conversation I had with a group of college friends when switching book-logging apps about how it’s becoming harder to find recommendations that aren’t curated by algorithmic AI. Sometimes you want to know what your friend is watching or reading or listening to that isn’t just the mainstream thing that everyone is.

The main form of this will be a curated monthly list of media I consumed and Leik’d, incorporated at the bottom of each month’s newsletter. Recommendations will also come in each podcast in the form of “If you liked [insert topic here], then you’ll like [blank].” Kennedi and Ella each had good ones in this episode for those who enjoyed “SLOCG.”

The third thing I’d like to accomplish, which in many ways ties with the second, is broadening the array of voices and the content covered, particularly on the podcast.

I love my very supportive friends who will hop on with me whenever I ask to chat about whatever — and if this is you, you are still very much welcome any time — but I want to talk to more of you. I want to hear what you like and why and have you convince me I should like it, too.

So this is my official call: Let me know what piece of media you’re passionate about — past or present, TV or movie, album, long-form article, book, whatever. Whether we talk often, on occasion or never; are good friends, work acquaintances or former classmates; have a lot of interests in common or none. Leave me a comment. Send me a DM. Drop me an email.

That’s all for now! Thanks for reading and subscribing. Promise I’ll be back in your inbox soon.
